We’re planting trees for your company.

When you recognize an employee through P2M, you do more than grow their pride. You help the environment.

Through the WCAFI (World Clean Air Forest Initiative), we’ll plant a tree every year for every one of your employees registered through our User Fee.

Planting trees fights climate change, deforestation and pollution.

One tree = One ton of clean air.

Your company can plant trees too.

Employers and employees can also help by planting trees at home or the office. Order a WCAFI Clean Air Tree Kit and get everything you need to grow your own tree.

Together, we can help make the world a better place, one tree at a time.

The Power2Motivate Environmental Plan

Power2Motivate® is deeply committed to environmental protection and while our corporate footprint from an infrastructure perspective is minimal with only 50 employees we in fact manage and execute incentive and recognition initiatives for over 100 companies in over 50 countries around the world. We have hundreds of suppliers who in turn ship hundreds of thousands of orders to our collective membership...we may be small in numbers but through our global deliveries we consume a lot of energy.

Our environment policy grew out of our underlining philosophy to automate and simplify every touch point within the design of the Power2Motivate®reward system which in turn dramatically reduces energy consumption within several key areas:

  • Reward Fulfillment
  • Supplier Integration
  • Supplier Selection
  • Internal Practices

Our "environmental policy" includes the following key areas:

1. Reward Fulfillment:

Carlton has automated every aspect of our order processing system from issuing electronic orders to all suppliers as well as tracking and issuing supplier payments...this offers significant environmental benefits including:

  • Eliminates the need for any third party warehousing
  • All orders are handled once without using added energy and packaging materials required to ship, receive, pick and re-pack each item
  • Warehouse based fulfillment is very common in our industry but it is proven to add costs due to the double handling each item
  • Example: Shipped over 250,000 rewards in 2008 - if each item was double handled requiring an extra 10kms to ship that item to a warehouse would generate 2.5million KM's of additional shipping costs as well as generating added fuel consumption and Co2 emissions, repacking materials plus the energy to build, heat and maintain an additional warehouse.

2. Supplier Integration:

Our objective is to work universally with web based suppliers who offer electronic real time order processing and fulfillment wherever possible. These suppliers include companies like Thomas Cook Travel whereby all orders are handled electronically and shipped directly to the end customer. In the case of Thomas Cook we electronically mail all travel tickets eliminating the needless use of paper and energy required to hand deliver tickets.

Carlton is 100% web based and one of our key objectives is to eliminate the use paper products within our entire end-to-end fulfillment process. In 2008 we introduced electronic payment options for our suppliers eliminating the need for paper based invoicing, cheque payments and postage. Currently, over 50% of all orders placed are paperless from the point of order placement to the final payment and all points in between.

3. Supplier Selection:

Our reward policy is to work domestically for all international programs and avoid trans-border shipments. Carlton currently operates in over 50 countries and we do not trans-border ship a single reward item. While finding domestic partners is more time consuming to date we have no issue finding good quality domestic suppliers to service our programs. We feel the associated costs both to the environment and our client's budget simply doesn't warrant the added energy cost to ship a reward item sometimes thousands of miles when a local supplier can do the same; domestic suppliers are often both faster and cheaper. While it is much harder to set up domestic suppliers initially, over the long haul it is far cheaper and faster to ship locally; it also has the secondary benefit of employing local labor as well.

Reward Choice: As part of our reward section we also offer all program participants' access to Green Products. These items have been selected based on how their merits as Green product alternatives. This section is new and I will add in development both from a policy and product selection perspective; we need to wrap our policy around how we determine the attributes of what makes one product more Green than another. Companies have had mixed results in this area which is why we have focused on more tangible direct energy savings and resource reduction.

4. Internal Practices:

Internally Carlton has its own Green employee award program which is an award issued to any employee who undertakes a Green initiative both inside the company or outside in their local community. This award was launched 9 months ago and we have already awarded 8 employee awards in the category. Some of the awards include:

  • On-going battery collection and safe disposal program - used computer batteries and personal use batteries
  • Green - Trade Friendly coffee is all that Carlton staff uses today
  • Safe disposal and recycling program for used computer parts
  • Community clean up programs in Uxbridge and Vaughn
